Worked for NY Telephone
Francis Gerry Birmingham, a native of Staten Island, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Nov. 18, 2017.
Gerry served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for New York Telephone Company for 43 years. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking, gardening, walking and, most of all, the company of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed annual trips to Canada visiting family.
Gerry was predeceased by Catherine Jane (nee MacDonald); they were married for 50 years.
He was the brother of Evelyn Rymsza, John and Raymond (both deceased); father of Ronald Birmingham, Gayle Murphy, Gerry Birmingham, Diane Diefanthaler, Steven Birmingham and Joyce Birmingham (deceased); grandfather of J.T. and Jean Murphy, Katie Murphy, Mark Birmingham, Alexandra and Sean Brown, Megan and Kelly Diefanthaler, Annie, Amy, Keri Jane Birmingham; and great-grandfather of Emily Murphy, and Matthew Murphy (deceased).
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rita's R.C. Church, S.I. Interment follows in St. Peter's Cemetery.
