Urban Buschur Obituary

NEW BREMEN - Urban A. Buschur Jr., 81, of New Bremen, died on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at 12:10 a.m. at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born on Sept. 17, 1931, in Coldwater. He was the son of Urban H. and Rosena (Dippold) Buschur.
On Sept. 5, 1953, he married the former Mary Topp, who survives in New Bremen. Also surviving are his children: Mark and Katrina Buschur, of Fort Loramie, Debra and Joe Gruebmeyer, of New Bremen, Kathy and Todd Fleagle, of St. Marys, Tim Buschur, of New Bremen, and Larry Buschur, of Russia; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his siblings: Marilyn Koch, of McComb, Ron (Joan) Buschur, of Celina, Marvin (Sue) Buschur, of Coldwater, and his brother-in-law, James Homan, of Coldwater. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister, Thelma Homan, and his brother-in-law, Charles Koch.
Mr. Buschur was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen, where he was a former parish council member and had been a lector for a number of years. He served on the New Bremen village council for a number of years and then was elected mayor of New Bremen and served from 1984 until 1995. He later became the director of economical development and was instrumental in the formation of the New Bremen Industrial Park, located on the west edge of New Bremen. Urban was a charter member of the New Bremen/New Knoxville Rotary Club and for many years was chairman of the High School Career Day, matching local high school juniors with professionals in many different career choices. He was an engineer at the former STAMCO in New Bremen for over 40 years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and was proficient in video poker.
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, June 10, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer New Bremen with the Rev. Ron Wilker, the Rev. Jerry Buschur and the Rev. Greg Bornhorst officiating. Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, June 9, 2013, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen and on Monday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the church, at which time the rosary will be prayed.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the New Bremen Emergency Squad. Condolences to the family may be left at gilberghartwigfh.com.
