SIDNEY — Edward "Ed" G. Hoying, 72, of 1110 N. Main Ave., passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community, Sidney. Edward was born Feb. 27, 1943, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late Sylvester "Sy" Hoying and Ruth (Kirner) Hoying. On June 16, 1962, he married the former Sharon Matthews, and she survives. Edward is survived by his wife; son, William Hoying, of Columbus; siblings, Tom Hoying, of Columbus, John and Kathy Hoying, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Rock and Leslie Hoying Kanter, of Centerville. Edward was a lifetime member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church. He graduated from Holy Angels Catholic High School in 1961, served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a longtime member of the Sidney American Legion Post 217, Sidney AMVETS Post 1986 and the Sidney Moose Lodge. He had retired from Stolle/Alcoa in Sidney as the traffic manager with more than 39 years of dedicated service. Edward had a wide range of interests and hobbies which included camping at Lake Loramie State Park and gardening. He loved traveling, especially to Sanibel and Estero Islands, Florida, enjoying the ocean and collecting sea shells. Through his father's employer, Edward gained an interest in Wagner Ware and had collected many unique pieces over the years. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at the Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sidney, with the Rev. James Riehle officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens with full military services provided by Sidney American Legion Post 217. Family and friends may gather from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be directed to the Holy Angels Building Fund in Edward's memory. Adams Funeral Home has been entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
