SIDNEY — Charles E. Thompson, age 89, of 1112 Colonial Drive, Sidney, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at the Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home, Wapakoneta.
Charles was born on April 19, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia, to the late Charles and Sarah (Krewson) Thompson.
On Dec. 24, 1949, Charles was married to Dorothy J. Anderson. They had been married for more than 64 years.
Charles is survived by his wife Dorothy; children, Dolly (Charlie) Broerman, of New Bremen, Ohio, and Shawn (Amy) Thompson, of Wapakoneta, Ohio; grandchildren, Mark Thompson, Roxanne Fawcett, Justin Thompson, Christopher Broerman, Shannon Broerman and Tianna Thompson; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, John Thompson, of Toms River, New Jersey, and Harold Thompson, of Caribou, Maine; sisters, Sarah Urban, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mary DeLucca, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia; and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by three sons, Chuck, John and Mark Dean Thompson.
Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was assigned to the 83rd Artillery Division, serving under General Patten's 3rd Army in Normandy. He was a member of the VFW Piqua Post 4874.
Charles had attended the Christian Tabernacle Church in Sidney and most recently the First Church of God of Campbell Road in Sidney. He had retired from the Stolle Corporation after 41 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed watching old movies and also loved to go bowling. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Funeral service for Charles will be held at noon on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, with the Rev. Harold McKnight officiating. Burial will follow at Plattsville Cemetery, Plattsville, with full military services.
Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at the funeral home.
