PIQUA — Donald E. Harp, 92, of Piqua, Ohio, formerly of Sidney, Ohio, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014, at the Dayton V.A. Medical Center, with his daughter and granddaughter at his side.
He was born on Nov. 5, 1921, in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Edward F. and Nora (Swob) Harp. On June 30, 1955, he married Eva F. Singer who preceded him in death Jan. 26, 2000.
He is survived by one son, Earl E. Harp, of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Keitha) Vale, of Piqua, Ohio, and Vera Bundrick, of Abbeville, Georgia; two sisters, Eileen Silvers, of Sidney, Ohio, and Mary Huffman, of Piqua, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Emerson Harp, and two sisters, Marie Locker and Helen Pohlschneider.
Mr. Harp served his country as a U.S. Army Paratrooper in World War II from 1942 to 1945. He worked for many years at Stolle Corp. and then moved to Florida where he enjoyed his time as a custom cabinet maker. He was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post 217, AMVETS, DAV and the VFW. Don loved to go fishing, work jigsaw puzzles and spent many hours volunteering his time at the Sidney American Legion.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 15, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Houston Cemetery with the Rev. James Manuel officiating. Full military honor's will be provided by American Legion Post 217.
A memorial gathering in celebration of Donald Harp's life will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sidney American Legion Post 217, 1265 Fourth Ave. Sidney.
Funeral arrangements are in care of Cromes Funeral Home & Crematory, 302 S. Main Ave, Sidney.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to the Sidney American Legion in memory of Donald Harp. Envelopes will be available during visitation.
