FINDLAY — Frederick "Fred" or "Fritz" A. Miller, of Findlay, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 at The Heritage, Findlay. He was 77.
He was born on April 5, 1936 in Wapakoneta, the son of Harold T. and Harriet Myrtle (Metz) Miller. He graduated from Jackson Center High School, and attended The Ohio State University. In 1960, after a whirlwind romance of three months, he married Sharon Zwiebel, also from Jackson Center. Together they have three children, Lisa Kay (David) Frantz, of Bellefontaine, Laura Lee (Brent) Wasson, of Findlay, and Todd Allen (Jennifer) Miller, of Findlay.
After a successful career in the insurance industry, Fred decided to follow his passion, working with his hands and building things. He worked for E.F Cramer and Son's Construction Company until 1983. He then followed his entrepreneurial dreams by starting his own remodeling and construction business, Fred Miller and Son Construction Company, which he operated successfully, until he retired in 2010. He served as a member of the National Guard from 1957-1961.
A very kind and generous man, he would do whatever he could to help those in need. He faithfully attended church throughout his life, taught Sunday school, loved to sing in the choir, and took the occasional nap (fully approved of by his Pastor, Moses Vegh).
He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, playing Rummikub, reading to his grandchildren, and watching Ohio State football and basketball. One of his greatest past-times was watching his grandsons playing high school sports, and supporting his granddaughters in their activities.
Fred is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon, children, Lisa K. Frantz (David), Laura Wasson (Brent), Todd Miller (Jennifer) and grandchildren, Natalie Terry-Lewis (Dustin), Courtney Combs, Whitney Combs, Michelle Terry-Stewart (Matthew), Caleb Combs, Austin Miller, Christina Terry, Braden Miller, Victoria Terry, Chase Miller and Delaney Miller; and his siblings, Phyllis Jones, Richard Miller and Gerald Miller.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Blythe Lee Combs (1987).
Visitations will be held At New Life Assembly of God, 3120 Norcrest St., Findlay, Sunday, Jan. 19 from 3 to 5 p.m., and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m.
