Larry M. Hawkey, 69, of 1016 N. Main Ave., Sidney, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at 10:33 a.m., at the Dayton V.A. Medical Center.
He was born on Jan. 18, 1944, in Sidney, the son of the late Merle and Waneta (Harper) Hawkey.
On Feb. 17, 1968, he married Pauline Aselage, who survives along with one son, Derek Hawkey, and wife, Paula, of Portland, Ind.; one daughter, Lee Ann Jones, and husband, Troy, of Celina; one sister, Marilyn McMaken, of Sidney; one brother, Michael Hawkey, and wife, Diana, of Bellefontaine; and eight grandchildren, Trevor Hawkey and Amber Ross, Tori Hawkey, Amanda Adair and husband, Robert, Kyle Emery, and Savannah, Bryan, Brayden and Branden Jones.
Mr. Hawkey was a 1962 graduate of Sidney High School. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps
from 1964 to 1967, and was in the 3rd Amtrak Batallion in Vietnam from July 1965 to August 1966.
Larry worked at Baumfolder Corp. for 25 years, and later worked through Securitas as security for Plygem and American Trim, retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Sidney VFW
and Moose Lodge No. 568.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, with Larry's brother, Michael Hawkey, officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
