SIDNEY — Marlene M. Gano, 78, of 140 W. Parkwood St., Sidney, passed away at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Wilson Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Marlene was born on Oct. 25, 1935, in Cadiz, Ohio, to the late James and Ruth (Blackwell) Greer. She was married to Richard Gano on Dec. 26, 1952, and he survives in Sidney. They had been married for more than 61 years.
Also surviving are her children, Richard Gano and his wife, Hannelore, of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Jacqueline McBride and her husband, Timothy, of Sidney; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Charlotte (Walter) LeClaire, Bonnie Henry, Cynthia Bowers, all from Massillon, Ohio; sister-in-law, Donna Greer, of Akron; daughter-in-law, Emily Gano, of Chesapeake, Ohio.
Marlene was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald Norman Gano and James Edward Gano; and one brother, James Greer.
Marlene attended The First Baptist Church in Sidney. She always referred to herself as a domestic engineer. She had a god given talent for writing and spent more than 13 years working for the St. Augustine Record, a newspaper based in St. Augustine, Fla.
Marlene was also a devout fan and supporter of the Green Bay Packers football team. She enjoyed gardening and shopping, and spent many hours on the road cruising around the country side with her husband Richard. She was a member of the Sidney American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 217 and a former member of the Elks Lodge in St. Augustine, Florida.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at The First Baptist Church, 309 E. North St., Sidney, with Pastor George Gnade officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco.
Friends and family may gather from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Dayton Children's Medical Center, 1 Children's Plaza, Dayton, OH 45404-1815, in Marlene's memory.
Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
