FORT LORAMIE — Nicholas R. Barhorst, age 70, of Park Street, Fort Loramie, Ohio, passed away of natural causes at his residence early Monday morning, April 21, 2014.
He was born Sept. 29, 1943, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to Irenus and Catherine (Oreilley) Barhorst. On Oct. 16, 1965, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, Nick married Anne E. (Paulus) Barhorst who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Jeff and Paula (Siegel) Barhorst, Steve and Lisa (Gaier) Barhorst, Brad and Nikki (Koverman) Barhorst, and Theresa and Kevin Hoying, all of Fort Loramie; 12 grandchildren, Peyton, Parker, Chase, Vince, Emily, Abby, Nicholas, Laney and Rylee Barhorst, Claire, Charlie and Margeaux Hoying; three siblings, Carl and Ellie Barhorst, of Kettering, Dave and Judy Barhorst, of Clayton, Linda and Mark Westgerdes, of Sidney; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Richard and Ruth Paulus, of Dayton, Dr. Kenneth and Angela Pohl, of Dayton, Edward Paulus, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Joan Paulus, of Versailles.
He was preceded in death by both parents and a sister-in-law, Georgeanne Paulus.
Mr. Barhorst had been owner and operator of Park Street Garage in Fort Loramie from 1974 until 2006. Since his career and hobby were one in the same, he continued to work with his sons at the family business. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and had been a past member of the Fort Loramie Fire Department. Nick enjoyed family, work, and friends. He was also a fan of old cars, boating, and bluegrass/country music.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with the Rev. Steven Shoup presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
