SIDNEY - Betty Jane Hoewischer, 92, of 3003 Cisco Road, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Dorothy Love Retirement Community.
She was born on Aug. 18, 1920, in Hicksville, the daughter of the late S.D. and Wanda (Brittain) Hadsell. On June 16, 1941, she was married to William J. Hoewischer at the North Methodist Church in Columbus. William preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1999.
She is survived by her two children: Jean Bell and husband, A.I., of Zanesville, and William J. Hoewischer II and wife, Lisa (Maurer), of Sidney; five grandchildren, Matthew Bell and wife, Melissa, of Zanesville, Jason Bell and wife, Sarah, of Canal Winchester, Travis Hoewischer, of Columbus, Ross Hoewischer and wife, Kara, of Columbus, and Jordan Hoewischer, of Hilliard; great-grandchildren Brady, Reily and Delaney Bell, all of Zanesville, Alaina and Cora Bell, both of Canal Winchester, and Kendall Hoewischer, of Columbus; and a sister, Barbara Greshel, of Burlington, Ky.
Betty was a graduate of Columbus North High School, class of 1937. She graduated from the Ohio State University in 1941, and then received a master's degree from Wright State University. She taught for 25 years at Northwood and Bridgeview Middle schools in Sidney.
Betty was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Agape Circle and the sewing group. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau, a member and officer of Friendly Circle Farm Bureau Council, member and secretary of AAUW, and member and secretary of Retired Teachers' Association. Betty also volunteered at Dorothy Love Retirement Community, worked in the Gift Shoppe and Twice Around Shop, and was a member of the Book Group and various other activities.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, which will be announced. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave.
