Charles Frey

ST. MARYS — Charles H. Frey, 85, formerly of 712 S. Main St. in St. Marys, Ohio, died at 7:09 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at Wapak Manor Nursing Home.

He was born July 17, 1928, in St. Marys, Ohio, to Lewis Edward and Clara Mae (Moore) Frey.

On Oct. 22, 1949, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, Ohio, he married Irene A. Braun, who died Dec. 7, 2013.

He is survived by daughter Connie (Steve) Bargdill, of Botkins, Ohio, daughter Linda Kremer, of Roanoke, Va., daughter Debbie (Wes) Shadley, of Bullhead City, Ariz., daughter Vickie (Mike) Neuman, of New Knoxville, Ohio, and daughter Charlotte (Tim) Findley, of Anna, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Edward and Clara Mae Frey, wife Irene Frey, brother Woodrow Frey, brother Leroy Frey, brother John Frey, sister Beatrice Keiber, sister Mary Anderson, and brother Samuel Frey.

He proudly served his country in both the Merchant Marines and United States Army during World War II.

He retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St. Marys after 38 years.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, VFW Post 9289 and Eagles Lodge Aerie 767, all in St. Marys.

Charlie loved his family and everything associated with the game of baseball. He had vast knowledge of statistics and history of teams and players. He especially enjoyed attending opening day festivities in Cincinnati every year of his adult life.

Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Military honors will be presented following the service. Private family burial will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
