COVINGTON — Joseph Wesley Copeland, 86, of Covington, died at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
He was born in Piqua on Jan. 26, 1927, to the late Delmar and Anna (Lobenstein) Copeland. On Aug. 7, 1948, in Piqua, he married Theresa Wehner. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2012.
Joseph is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marijo and Larry Poling, Piqua; one sister-in-law, Betty Copeland, Piqua; two grandchildren, Brett (Maryann) Poling, Beavercreek, and Jennifer Henkel, Perrysburg; and three great grandchildren, Ruth Marie Poling, Elizabeth Helen Poling and Robert Joseph Poling. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph W. Copeland, and one brother, Donald Copeland.
Joseph proudly served his country as a member of the US Army during WWII. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Piqua. Joseph was also a member of Piqua VFW Post No. 4874 and Piqua Elks No. 523. He retired from Aerovent after 31 years. Joseph and his wife, Theresa also started and owned Copeland Breezy Knoll Apple Orchard in Covington for 30 years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Piqua, with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Bolte as Celebrant. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua. Prayers will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Full military honors will be presented by The Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.
