GREENVILLE — Lee Elsass, 80, of Greenville, passed away at 7:10 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
He was born June 1, 1933, in Clarksville, and the son of the late Harry John and Ava Della (Bagford) Elsass.
Lee was retired following a 33-year career as an elementary school principal and teacher. He also had served in the military during peacetime, was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Elk's Lodge and a lifetime member of the Optimist Club, all of Greenville, and a member of the Ohio and Darke County Retired Teachers associations.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Wilt) Elsass, Oct. 5, 2013. They were married Aug. 25, 1957.
Lee is survived by his children, Lorri (Jeff) Shoop, of Greenville, Larry Elsass, of Margate, Fla., and Lowell Elsass, of Greenville; grandchildren, Krystin, Lyndsey and Conner Elsass and Dirk Shoop; great-grandchildren, Lexi and Lucas Shoop; sister, Helen Burden, of Sidney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the St. John Lutheran Church, 7418 State Route 121 N., Greenville, with Pastor Patti Morlock officiating. Private burial will be held in the St. John Church Cemetery.
The will be no public visitation.
Arrangements are by Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville. It is the wish of the family that memorial contributions be given to St. John Lutheran Church of Greenville, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4440 Lake Forest Drive, Suite 120, Cincinnati, OH 45242, or the Cancer Association of Darke County.
