OMAHA, Neb. — William Oliver Smedley, born Jan. 27, 1928, in Sidney, Ohio, was one of 12 children born to Ada Luella Bates and Charles Smedley. He entered into rest Thursday June 19, 2014.

After graduating high school in Sidney, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served his country for more than 20 years as a photography technician. His service gave him the opportunity to travel to new places and meet new people. Bill continued his travels after retiring from the Air Force, visiting several countries and learning new languages.

Bill also worked as a janitor for Metro Community College, College of St. Mary's and Good Samaritan Nursing Home. He also delivered papers for The Thrifty Nickel for many years.

Bill never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Bill was a member of the VFW, American Legion, various pool and bowling leagues and the Cheapski Brothers.

Bill is survived by longtime, beloved companion Pearl Rewolinksi; twin sister, Wilma Watern; sister, Mary Henson; brother, Bob Smedley; and many extended family members.

Graveside memorial services were held July 2 at Bohemian Cemetary in Omaha.
