SARASOTA, Fla. — Robert P. Wyer, age 76, of Sarasota, Florida, and formerly of Fletcher and Piqua, Ohio, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014, in Sarasota.
Born in Champaign County, Adams Township, Ohio, on April 8, 1938, Robert was a son of the late Edward and Mary Ruth (Stoker) Wyer.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Politte) Wyer, whom he married on June 14, 1958. Together they raised two sons: Steve (Teresa) Wyer and Gregory (Lisa) Wyer, both of Sarasota. He was a loving grandfather to four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Ruth Wyer, of Fletcher, and a brother, Donald Wyer, of St. Paris.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson.
Robert served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959. He was formerly employed by Dinner Bell of Troy, Deckers and Hobart Corp., Piqua. He also was the mayor of Fletcher for eight years. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 2 p.m. in Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco, Ohio, with the Rev. Kenneth McDonald presiding. Veterans memorial services will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad of Piqua.
