SIDNEY — Alvis J. Hughes, 84, of Sidney, passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at 7:38 a.m. at Hospice of Dayton Care Center.

He was born on Dec. 29, 1930, in Smithtown, Kentucky, the son of the late Leslie and Myrtle (New) Hughes. On Dec. 3, 1949, he married Thelma L. Carpenter who preceded him in death Aug.5, 2009.

He is survived by three sons, Richard A. (Debbie) Hughes, of Punta Gorda, Florida, Ronald E. (Norma) Hughes and Jerry J. (Maggie) Hughes, both of Sidney; one brother, Walden Hughes, of Bellevue, Florida; one sister, Faye (Floyd) Lambdin, of Port Jefferson; nine grandchildren;and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, one granddaughter, three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Hughes retired in general housewares from the former Wagner Manufacturing Company in Sidney. He loved carpenter work and working on cars.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, with Pastor Earnie Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
