Bernard Holthaus (1923 - 2017)

MCCARTYVILLE — Bernard E. Holthaus, 93, of McCartyville, died at 1:37 a.m., Feb. 2, 2017, at his home in McCartyville.

He was born, June 8, 1923, in Fort Loramie, to the late Bernard H. and Caroline (Prenger) Holthaus. He married Ruth Albers, Sept. 4, 1946, and she preceded him in death, Oct. 14, 1977. He then married Mary Weitzel Langenkamp, June 22, 1984, and she preceded him in death, March 25, 2008.

He is survived by children, Rosemary and Marvin Albers, of Anna, Bernard and Bobbi Holthaus, of Sidney, Dorothy Inman, of Mesa, Arizona, Marlene Overly, of Duluth, Georgia, Carol and Larry Voisard, of Fort Loramie, Fred Holthaus, of Anna, Marian Bensman, of Russia, Rick and Deb Holthaus, of Anna, Pat and Mark Wale, of Celina, Rita and Allan Wente, of Minster, Treva and Rick Monnier, of Tipp City, Mark and Sharon Holthaus, of Anna, Bill and Deb Holthaus, of Anna, Jerry Holthaus, of Anna, Margie and Jerry Gepfrey, of Anna, and Rob Holthaus, of Anna; 36 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lester Holthaus, of Fort Loramie, and Catherine Holthaus; in-laws, Angela Albers, of Fort Loramie, Tom and Margaret Albers, of Egypt, Carl and Alvira Albers, of St. Henry, and the Langenkamp family.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Ann Holthaus; sons-in-law, Dave Overly and John Bensman; brothers and sisters, Alfred and Mary Holthaus, Marcellus Holthaus, Victor Holthaus, Rita Holthaus, Anthony and Roseann Holthaus; and brother-in-law, Bernard Albers.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, McCartyville. He was a lifetime farmer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, McCartyville. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, St. Patrick.

Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, from 2 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 6, and from 9 to 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7.
