Betty Gaier (1937 - 2014)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Betty Dorner Gaier, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Dec. 24, 2014, having lived a life full of love from many friends and family.

She was born in Sidney, Ohio, on Aug. 20, 1937, the daughter of Rudy and Nora Dorner, who are deceased. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Dorner.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, James Gaier, and her two daughters, Jamie (Doug) LaFleur and Jacqueline (Peter) Franklin; five grandchildren, Cameron (Kara), Brandon and Chloe LaFleur, and Hilary and Davis Franklin, her brother, Tom (Carol) Dorner, and sister-in-law, Doris Dorner, including several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, Melissa (Vince Molseed) Dorner, Steve (Kim) Dorner, Jeff (Kay) Dorner and John Jr. (Brenda) Dorner, and Jodie Dorner, and their children, Alex, Benjamin, Colin, Drew, Nora and Mitchell.

Betty worked for General Motors as an administrative assistant for 18 years. She was also an active member and Treasurer of the "Fun Seekers Club," socializing with her dear friends to solve "world problems." After her retirement, she focused her time and generosity on her family and friends. She never met a stranger and touched many lives by her genuine support, unconditional love, and being a great listener. Betty was full of life and blessed with a quick wit and ability to light up a room.

A family memorial service will take place in the spring of 2015 in Ohio, date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan, Home Instead, and Side by Side Adult Daycare.
