FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — Betty Ann Thornton, 88, of Fort Myers Beach, Florida, formerly of Quincy Ohio, died on Feb. 25, 2016, at Hope Hospice.

She was born on July 7, 1927, in Springfield, Ohio, a child of William and Orma Armstrong.

A Florida resident for the past 12 years, she retired as a machinist for Copeland Corporation, Sidney, Ohio, and was a member of the Rosewood United Methodist Church, in Rosewood, Ohio.

She is survived by her children, William J. Thornton, of Virginia, and Cindy (Vernon) Pottenger, of Fort Myers Beach, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Sarah Thornton, of Sidney, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; and her brother, Thomas (Louise) Armstrong, of Terre Haute, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husbands, Francis E. Thornton and Beckman Pitts, and her son, Thomas E. Thornton.

Memorial funeral services will be held on Monday, May 30, 2016, at 11 a.m in the Rosewood United Methodist Church, 6543 Rosewood Quincy Road, Rosewood, Ohio, with Pastor Andy Leighty presiding. There will be a time of visitation from 10:30 a.m until the time of the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Terre Haute Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to any hospice program.
