FRENCHTOWN — Carl E. Neargarder, age 78, of Frenchtown, passed away at 2:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016m at his residence.

Carl was born Jan. 12, 1938m in Darke County to the late Chelcie and Alfreda (Goubeaux) Neargarder.

Carl is survived by his wife, Ruth E. (Schwartz) Neargarder whom he married July 26, 1958; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie Phlipot, of Versailles, Reyna and Jerry Shardo, of Willowdell, and Sheri and Jon Hoying, of Minster; grandchildren, Brian and Sommer Phlipot, Carl Phlipot, Randy and Candace Phlipot, Eric Phlipot, Mindy and Justin Coby, Joe and Stephanie Shardo, Jeremy Shardo and fiancée, Sheree Simrak, Jacqueline Hoying, Jacob Hoying, Janae Hoying, Jenavieve Hoying, Josephine Hoying, Jillian Hoying, Julia Hoying and Jack Hoying; great-grandchildren, Mia Wilson, Cogan Wilson, Brady Phlipot, Cooper Phlipot, Everett Phlipot, Taryn Phlipot, Dylan Coby and one expected great-grandchild in August; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Carl was also preceded in death by his son, Bruce Neargarder; son-in-law, Mike Phlipot; sisters, Rita Schmidt, Virginia Sparks, Dorothy Beers and Ilene Lange; and brothers, Donald and Marion Neargarder.

Carl formerly worked at Poultry Producers in Versailles where he was a truck driver, NCR in Dayton, and was a dispatcher at Carl Subler Trucking and Dick Lavy Trucking. Carl retired in 2008 from BNSF Logistics in Versailles where he was a dispatcher. Carl was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown, Versailles Knights of Columbus for over 50 years and was Past Grand Knight, and was the 1978 Chairman of Versailles Poultry Days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown with the Rev. Carl Subler celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery in Frenchtown.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. A prayer service will be conducted by the Versailles Knights of Columbus Friday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Versailles Knights of Columbus or Versailles Emergency Medical Services.
