SIDNEY — Charles "Charley" Murphy Jr., 65, of Sidney passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at 9 p.m. at his residence. He was born on Aug. 3, 1951, in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Charlie and Nannie (Perry) Murphy.

On June 12, 1971, Charley married Glenna Jones who survives along with five daughters, Angel M. (Dave) Stephens of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Andrea L. Braun of Gettysburg, Ohio, Lana R. (James) Whitman of Bellefontaine, Amanda S. (Howie Sr.) Ludwig of Piqua, and Valerie M. (Scot) Fogt of Jackson Center; 12 grandchildren, Riley (Alexis) Braun, Ethan (Sarah) Braun, Arian (Josh) Detrick, Kaylee Murphy, Howie Ludwig Jr., Cayden Whitman, Kienna Whitman, Carson Fogt, Zavier Ludwig, Akira Whitman, Alivia Stephens and Akenza Whitman; one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Braun, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Weiler and Judy Murphy, and brothers, Donald and James "Leroy" Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was a 1970 graduate of Sidney High School. He worked at Gartland-Haswell for 19 years, and later worked as a custodian for Sidney City Schools. He was a member of New Life Church in Port Jefferson.

Charley was a soft spoken and joyful person (mixed with a little orneriness). He loved Jesus and was devoted to his family (especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter). Charlie's hobby was wood working and he was a die-hard Cincinnati Bengals Fan "Who Dey!"

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, with Pastor Earnie Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
