ANNA — Charles Edward "Ed" Wells, 70, of 9631 State Route 274, Anna, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at 8:09 a.m. at his residence after a three-year courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 6, 1943, in Sidney, the son of the late Charles Homer and Olga (Eschmeyer) Wells.

Ed and Judith J. (Jarrett) were married on Aug. 18, 1995. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Jeff (Julie) Wells, of New Bremen, Jon (Suzanne) Wells, of New Bremen, Jamie (Jeff) Williams, of Wapakoneta, Aimee Billing, of Vandalia, Molly (Brian) Winemiller, of Sidney, and Ryan (Debbie) Billing, of Hillard. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, Madison Wells, Logan Wells, Tilor Rohr, Spencer Rohr, Nicholas Wells, Patrick Wells, Benjamin Wells, Maria Wells, Jordan Williams, Gunnar Knox, Libby Knox, Madden Winemiller, Hudson Winemiller, Jarrett Billing, Mia Billing and Charlotte Billing; and one great-granddaughter, Harper Rohr. One granddaughter, Madigan Winemiller, preceded him in death. Ed was also survived by one brother, Bob (Ruthann) Wells, of Wapakoneta; and one sister, Shirley (Dwight) Wilges, of Sidney. In addition to many cousins, nieces and nephews, Wells was survived by his best friend of more than 40 years, Butch Scully, of Sidney, whom he shared many of his interests and activities with.

Mr. Wells retired as a supervisor from the LeRoi Dresser after more than 40 years of service. Following this, he retired as a supervisor from H. & B. Products after 10 years of service. He was a longtime member of Kettlersville United Church of Christ and was a 1961 graduate of Botkins High School. He was a member of the Sidney-Shelby County Senior Center, where he played cards and Texas hold 'em with a special group of friends on Mondays. In addition, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bingo, winter Florida vacations and playing with, entertaining and following his grandchildren in all of their sports and activities. He was also an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Cincinnati Bengals. He enjoyed the company of his dog, Bosley, and his cat, Bobcat. Mr. Wells was a remarkable man and a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and will be sadly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, with the Rev. Philip K. Chilcote officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
