Cynthia Wilt-Withey (1948 - 2014)

ST CHARLES, Ill. — Cynthia Lane Wilt-Withey was born on July 11, 1948, in Sidney, Ohio and died August 12, 2014, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, while traveling in their Airstream trailer.

She grew up in Anna, Ohio, attended Anna High School (1966) and graduated from Miami Valley School of Nursing in Dayton, Ohio, in 1969. She became a flight attendant with United Airlines in January 1970, based in Los Angeles.

She married Harold E. Withey, Jr. (Hal) on Feb. 14, 1971, in Anna, Ohio. She had two beautiful children, Laura Marie (1973) and Brian Edward (1976).

Survivors include Laura Marie Withey-Watkins (Peter), Campbell, Mae, Seth, Winona Minnesota, Brian Edward Withey (Jaime), Derek, Chicago, Illinois, and Philip W. Wilt, Van Nuys, California.

She left United Airlines in 1976 to raise her family in Southern California and continue her education. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (with great distinction) from California State University- Long Beach in 1986, and became a certified school nurse. After a corporate move from the Los Angeles area to the Chicago area in 1987, she worked as the school nurse at Geneva High School, Geneva, Illinois, for 15 years and Bartlett High School for two years. Cynthia was a member of First Lutheran Church in Torrance, California, for 18 years and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles, Illinois, for 26 years. She also attended The United Church of Christ in Compton Hills, Illinois.

She was a very active church member her entire life. She loved singing in the choir and playing bells. She was a great wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her children and grandchildren more than anything in this world. Cynthia was an avid cyclist, hiker, swimmer, reader and loved camping in the great outdoors. Hal and Cynthia traveled throughout the United States in their Airstream trailer for the last seven years. She was loved by all that knew her, and will be missed forever!

Visitations will be at Yurs Funeral Home of St. Charles, Illinois, on Friday, Aug. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. A celebration of life service will be at Bethleham Lutheran Church, St. Charles, Illinois, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Memorials may be sent to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
