NEW BREMEN —Donald E. Homan, age 88, of New Bremen, died on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at 8:10 a.m at the Otterbein Senior Lifestyles Community of St. Marys, Ohio.

He was born on May 10, 1929, near Chickasaw, Ohio. He was the son of Leo J. and Clara M. (Kaiser) Homan.

Survivors include his sister, Velma Berning, of Anna; brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Diana Homan, of Maria Stein; sister-in-law, Lillian Homan, of St. Marys; and brother-in-law, Alvin Brown, of New Bremen. He is also survived by 50 nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was his siblings and in-laws, Maurice and Joann Homan, Arnold Homan, Harold and Rose Mary Homan, Dorothy and Anthony Brown, Ruth Brown, Joan Homan and Sylvester Berning.

Don was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. He had belonged to the New Bremen Senior Citizens, the Mercer County Farm Bureau, Mercer Landmark and the Minster Farmers Coop. Don was an avid card player and was always ready for a hand of euchre or rummy. He enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with the Rev. Tim Ralston and the Rev. Martin Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Precious Blood Cemetery, Chickasaw.

Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and on Thursday from 9:30 until 10 a.m. at the church, at which time the rosary will be prayed.

Memorial contributions in memory of Don can be made to the New Bremen Senior Citizens or to the New Bremen EMS.
