Donald Stephens

BELLEFONTAINE — Donald E. Stephens, 86 of Bellefontaine, passed away on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at Green Hills Care Center, West Liberty following a short illness.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1928, in Bellefontaine, a son of the late Cyril Wayne and Helen Grace (Gordon) Stephens. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Norva Stephens Yoder.

On Sept. 2, 1954, in Cleveland, Mississippi, he married Geraldine "Jerry" Congleton and she survives along with a daughter, Stephanie (Bruce Thompson) Stephens, of Columbus; sons, Daniel (Marla) Stephens, of Bellefontaine, Stuart Stephens, of Bellefontaine, Thomas (Kelli) Stephens, of DeGraff; grandchildren, Kurtis (Stephanie) Stephens, Cy Stephens, Alexis Stephens, Katherine Stephens, Samantha Stephens, Christopher Stephens, Aubrey Stephens and Max Stephens; great-grandchild, Jerrik Stephens; and a brother, Gordon Wayne (Phyllis) Stephens, of Englewood.

He worked at Copeland Corporation in Sidney, Ohio, where he retired in 1990.

A member of the First United Methodist Church, he was also a member of Harold Kerr Post 173 American Legion of Bellefontaine and F&AM Lodge 209, Bellefontaine.

He was an avid bowler, golfer and OSU Fan. He enjoyed collecting Roseville and Flowblue pottery and also collected and sold antiques.

Pastor Ed Beale will officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and also on Thursday an hour prior to the funeral service. Military rites will be held by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Zanesfield Cemetery at a later date.
