Dorothy Franklin (1938 - 2016)

UNION, Kentucky — Dorothy Ann Bowman-Williams Franklin, 77, of Union. Kentucky, entered eternal rest on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016.

She was born in West Point, Kentucky, and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. Dorothy graduated from Central High School in 1955 and received a bachelor's degree from Kentucky State College (Kentucky State University) and a master's degree from the University of Louisville.

She was married to Dr. Herbert Franklin for 53 years.

Dorothy Franklin positively impacted countless students, parents, and peers during her 38 year tenure as a teacher and counselor in Louisville, Kentucky; Bloomington, Indiana; Gainesville, Florida; Frankfort, Kentucky; and Sidney, Ohio. She was actively involved with many community and church efforts which fostered educational and religious advancements for youth in each community where she lived.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elsmere, Kentucky, Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Louisville, Kentucky, the NAACP, and a former member of the Visionaries club, Gainesville, Florida.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Herbert Franklin; her children Marcus (Dianna) and Lori; her sister, Barbara (Kenneth) Unseld; her grandchildren Austin, Aaron, and Ashley Franklin and Micaela, Kendall and Kiana Stroud; and Aunt Minnie McCarroll.

The visitation will be held on Sunday, March 6, from 3 p.m. until service time of 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1007 Garvey Avenue, Elsmere, Kentucky 41018.

Interment will be at Dayton National Cemetery on Tuesday, March 8, with a graveside service at 3 p.m.
