SIDNEY — Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Harshbarger, 72, of Sidney, passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at The Pavilion Nursing Home in Sidney after a long battle with cancer.

She was born on Feb. 3, 1944, in Botkins, Ohio, the daughter of the late Herbert and Wilma (Boeke) Platfoot.

On Nov. 23, 1963, she married Henry Harshbarger, who survives in Sidney along with five children, Dawn (Keith) Buehler, of Botkins, Douglas (Kelli) Harshbarger, of Sidney, Lloyd (Paula) Harshbarger, of Anna, Julie (Aaron) Steinke, of McCartyville, and Aaron (April) Harshbarger, of Sidney; son/exchange student, Balafre (Ealine) De Andrade Jr., of Brazil; 17 grandchildren, Renee Buehler (Kyle Epperson), Adam (Jennifer) Buehler, and Amber Buehler; Sebastian Harshbarger and Joey Cockroft; Hailey Harshbarger (Eric Terwilliger) and Heather Harshbarger; Brad, Alec, Derek, Ryan, and Kara Steinke; and Jenna, Samuel, Mark, Rachel, and Isaac Harshbarger; siblings, Phyllis Lea of Canton, Georgia, Bill (Angie) Platfoot, of Tipp City, John (Rosemary) Platfoot, of Kingston, Tennesee, Diane Billing, of Anna, Connie (Doug) Bisher, of Springfield, Duane Platfoot, of Anna, Sharon (Rick) Staley, of Huber Heights, Rick (Joyce) Platfoot, of Botkins, Steve Platfoot (Amy Belcher), of Botkins; brother- and sister-in-laws, William (Luz) Harshbarger, of Sidney, Rebecca (Wayne) Cuthbert, of Groveport, and Paul (Ellen) Harshbarger, of Mount Hood, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Platfoot, father- and mother-in-law Lloyd and Bertha Harshbarger, and brothers-in-law, Roy Lea and Terry Billing.

Betty is a 1962 graduate of Anna High School. She retired from Schindler Elevator in Sidney, Ohio, where she worked for 25 years. After retirement, she taught Sunday School for 10 years. Betty was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Sidney.

She started piano lessons at age 65 and got her motorcycle license at age 70. She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting friends and family with Henry (especially on their red scooters), reading the Bible, gardening, canning, and putting together puzzles. She was also proud of the fact that her last three children were all born on Feb. 1 (in different years), which was two days before her birthday.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at 10:a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1899 Wapakoneta Ave., Sidney, with Pastor Joshua Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery in Swanders.
