ANNA — Esther A. (Dirksen) Winner, age 81, of Meranda Road, Anna, Ohio, passed away of natural causes at her home on Saturday, July 19, 2014.

She was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Cassella, Ohio, to the late Clarence and Philomena (Homan) Dirksen. On June 8, 1955, at Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cassella, Esther married Orville B. Winner, who preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 2007.

She is survived by six children, Mary and Jim Billing, of Anna, Alan and Renee Winner, of DeGraff, Jane and Jon Luthman, of Botkins, Ted and Jodie Winner, of Sidney, Kate and Ron Bensman, of El Dorado Hills, California, and Jay and Colleen Winner, of Lewistown; 31 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; six siblings, Alma Schmitmeyer ,of Cranberry, Rita Evers, of Burketsville, Joan Poeppelman, of Yorkshire, Ruth and Marvin Evers, of Coldwater, Louis and Sally Dirksen, of Portland, Indiana, and Dennis and Jody Dirksen, of Cassella; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Dirksen, of Uvalde, Texas, Virginia Thobe, of Maria Stein, Jerry and Marilyn Winner, of Fort Loramie, Marlene and Robert Sanders, of Hudson, and Carol and Sam Morgan, of Kettering.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Ezra Winner; two siblings, Herb Dirksen and Helen Wenning; brothers and sisters-in-law: George Wenning, Ernest Schmitmeyer, Ed Evers, John Poeppelman, Harold Thobe, Rosemary and Joe Wood, Joan and Ken Tragesser and Joe Dorsten.

Esther was a 1950 graduate of Marion Local High School. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Altar Rosay Sodality of the church. She had been a past member of Shelby County Right to Life. A devoted farmwife and homemaker; Esther enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved nature; especially birds and flowers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in McCartyville with the Rev. John W. Tonkin presiding. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 3 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 9 to 10 a.m. in the church gathering room.

Memorials may be made to Wilson Hospice Care or Shelby County Right to Life.
