BOTKINS — Eugene M. "Gene" Manger, 78, of Botkins, died 4:39 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at the Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born April 26, 1935, in Anna, the son of George & Edna (Steinke) Manger, who preceded him in death. On June 27, 1959, he married Ronda L. Eyink, who survives.

Other survivors include four children, Michael (Diane) Manger, Anna, Mark (Toni) Manger, Botkins, David (Robyn) Manger, Maryesther, Fla., and Brian (Brenda Stoker) Manger, Botkins; grandchildren, Ashley (Brian) Holthause, Ryan (Brittany) Manger, Dustin Manger, Jade Manger, Jimmy Herring, Reid Manger, Kristi Manger and fiancee Jeremy Spoon, Joshua (Penny) Manger, Sherri Manger, Jenna Manger, Cody Manger, Trey Manger, Ralph (Lisa) Stoker and Tyson Mobley; four great-grandchildren, Aleik Holthause Rose Holthause, Atalyn Kellem and Abigail Manger; four siblings, Juanita (Jesse) Tripp, Blounts Creek, N.C., Ronald (Monica) Manger, Botkins, Marlene McKee, Bellefontaine, and Connie (Donald) Butcher, Wapakoneta; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Manger, Botkins,

He was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Manger, a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann (Bill) Schmidt, and a brother-in-law, Robert McKee.

Gene worked for more than 50 years at Botkins Feed & Grain/Hubbard Seed Co. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins, and participated in the Adoration Chapel.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. Gene was a 50 member of the American Legion, Heiland Post 446, Anna-Botkins, where he served as past commander, adjutant, and on the color guard. He also served as county adjutant. He was a member of the Botkins Fire Department for more than 30 years.

Over his lifetime, Gene donated 178 units of blood (22.25 gallons) at the Community Blood Center. He liked to fish with his grandchildren, and supported them by his attendance at their activities. He also enjoyed helping other fire departments and organizations with their fundraisers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Botkins, with the Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Botkins, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 446.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta.
