MINNESOTA— The Rev. Fred Thomas, 86, of Plymouth, Minnesota, passed on April 10, 2017, due to complications from surgery.

He is survived by his children, Eduard Thomas (Edwinna), Andres Thomas-Conteris and Sonya Worner (Paul); and three grandchildren.

His wife, Ilda Thomas, of 35 years, passed in 1994. His second wife, Marie Thomas, died in 2007.

Fred was born March 17, 1931, in Beloit, Wisconsin. He graduated from Beloit College with a degree in religion and physics, and Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity. His remarkable career serving God spanned 45 years pastoring and teaching at 16 different churches and serving as a missionary for eight years in Uruguay and Bolivia, South America. He has the distinction of being the only Methodist pastor in Wisconsin to minister at both Native American parishes, Oneida and/or Odanah.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Zickert, and brother, George Thomas.

Fred was well known for telling jokes and bringing a smile to all. He enjoyed singing, acting in local plays, traveling to his small cabin in Wisconsin, studying history, teaching, fixing "things" and collecting stamps.

A memorial service will take place on April 18, with visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m. at Messiah United Methodist Church, 17805 County Road 6, Plymouth, Minnesota, 55447. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Messiah Church.
