SIDNEY — Gary L. Allen, 71, of Sidney, passed away at 6:27 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at Kindred Hospital in Lima.

He was born on May 23, 1944 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late William Allen and Evelyn (Driskell) Allen who survives in Sidney. On Feb. 15, 1964, he married Pamela Harp and she survives in Sidney.

Gary is survived by his two children, Mindy (Tim) Gies, of Jackson Center, and Matt (Char) Allen, of West Salem; six grandchildren, Kyle Allen, Kerstin Gasson, Courtney Gies, Bailey Allen, Courtney Gasson and William Allen; and one brother, Mark Allen, of Sidney.

Gary was preceded in death by two infant brothers; David and Steven Allen.

Mr. Allen worked for 23 years as the controller at Wagner Manufacturing in Sidney. Gary was a 1962 graduate of Fairlawn High School and a 1963 graduate of Miami Jacobs College in Dayton. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966 - 1969. He was the past commander of the American Legion Post 217 and also the Chef de gar of the 40/8. He was also the past treasurer at his church. He was a past president of the IUITUS Club.

He was a scout master for many years with Troop 95 and a member of the Miami Valley Council of the Order of the Arrow. Gary enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and traveling and was well known as "Big Tex." He loved his dog, Rocceau, who was his beloved companion. Gary loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren, and he made many wonderful memories with them.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sidney where a funeral service will be held Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jonathan W. Schriber officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco.

Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave. Sidney where there will be a service by the American Legion Post 217 at 3:45 p.m. and also on Monday at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of service.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gary's name to St. John's Lutheran Church or the American Legion Post 217 Color Guard.
