Harold Thieman (1925 - 2015)

MINSTER — Harold A. Thieman, age 89, of Minster, Ohio, passed away Sept. 8, 2015, at Dorothy Love Retirement Community.

He was born in Minster, Ohio, on Nov. 27, 1925, to George and Olive ( Kleinhenz) Thieman. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Beckman on June 26, 1948, in St. Henry, Ohio and she survives.

He is also survived by his children, Robert and Elaine Thieman, Loveland, Ohio, Mark and Barbara Thieman, Minster, Ohio, Jim and Tonya Thieman, Sidney, Ohio, Paul Thieman, Sidney, Craig and Kristie Thieman, Louisville, Kentucky, and Lynn and Keith Benninghoff, Allentown, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Chris Thieman, Minster; and brother-in-law, Myrle Vallo, Kettering.

He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Roger Thieman, Hilda and Bob Wehrman, Edna and Rich Frierott, Alice and Urban Poeppelman and Betty Vallo.

He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. He was a graduate of Minster High School and The Ohio State University. He was a member of the Minster Civic Association, Arrowhead Golf Club, Minster F.O.E. 1391, was the past officer of the National Canners Association and the Ohio Canners Association. He was employed at the Department of Agriculture for several years after graduation from OSU and then became co-owner of Minster Canning Company. He was an avid golfer and history buff and was a 69-year alumni season ticket holder for OSU football.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster with the Rev. Rick Nieberding celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Augustine Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015.
