SIDNEY — James S. McVety, 67, of Sidney, died at 4:36 am Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Riverside Healthcare Center of Dayton.

He was born Nov. 13, 1948, in Piqua, to the late Sheldon J. and Janet (Hershey) McVety. He married Barbara J. Hook on June 22, 1968, in New Bremen; and she survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Michele (Carl) Hutcherson, of Piqua, and Jennifer (David) Matthews, of Columbus; seven grandchildren; five brothers, Rick McVety, of Russia, Ronald McVety and Tim McVety, both of Minster, Steve (Tammy) McVety and Robert (Tracy) McVety, all of Sidney; and four sisters, Nancy (Harry) Vonderhuevel, of Sidney, Sandy (Dave) Hoelscher, of Fort Loramie, and Teresa Counts and Becky Fantroy, both of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Michael and a sister Judy Jons.

Mr. McVety was a 1968 graduate of Minster High School and worked for many years as a Machinist with the French Oil Mill Machinery Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Sidney, National Rifle Association and an active member of the former Piqua Area Jaycee's organization. He enjoyed camping with the Mountain Men encampments, riding his Harley Davidson and being with his family.

A service to honor his life will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2016, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, Piqua, with the Rev. George Gnade officiating. Burial will follow at Beechwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
