THE VILLAGES, Fla. — James L. Sherman, of The Villages, Florida, and formerly of Sidney, Ohio, passed away peacefully after fighting pancreatic cancer, on Wednesday Oct. 14, 2015.

Jim was born Nov. 27, 1932, to the late Joseph and Clara (Doseck) Sherman in Fort Loramie, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Dee (Diana), his children, Lois Conger (Rod), of St Pete, Florida, Tom Sherman, of San Francisco, California, Linda Garcia (Ray), of Temperance Michigan, Dan Sherman, of Fairbanks Alaska, Angela Austin (Tom), of Chardon, Ohio, and Rick Duncum (Tonia), of Prospect Ohio; as well as 13 grandchildren, Jamie and Brittany Pennington, Shelby, Ragan and Jacob Garcia, Anthony and Breeanna Sherman, Sara, Samantha, Seth and Sawyer Austin, and Nick and Becca Duncum. Surviving siblings include Thelma Kerber, Marge Crusey, Bernard Sherman and Ivo Sherman.

Jim graduated from Holy Angels High School, Sidney, Ohio, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard until 1955. He worked for General Highway Express as the director of maintenance, and later worked at Alcoa. Jim loved sports, boating on the Ohio River, golfing and spending time with his family.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, Oct 29, at 8:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church, The Villages, Florida. A brunch will follow for friends and family. A military service will be conducted Friday, Oct 30 at 11:00 at Bushnell National Cemetery.
