SIDNEY — James I. Smith, age 76, of Sidney, formerly of Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at 9:10 p.m. at Ohio Living Dorothy Love, Sidney.

He was born June 18, 1940, in Pikeville, Kentucky, to the late Virgil and Estee (Hatfield) Smith. He married Patricia A. (Brush) Smith on April 9, 1953, in Piqua, Ohio. She preceded him in death Oct. 8, 2016.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Kevin Richey, Troy, Ohio; two sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tammy Smith, Sidney, Ohio, and Jim Smith Jr., Piqua, Ohio; three brothers, Stewart "Red" Smith, Jay County, Indiana, Fred Smith, Salmonia, Indiana, and Ervin Smith, Troy, Ohio; one sister, Madge Helvey, Pikeville, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren, Lindsay, Emily, Taylor, Sarah, Kristian, Cori, Alicen, Brittani, Deron, Hannah and Caleb; and seven great-grandchildren.

One son, Patrick A. Smith, preceded him in death.

James worked for Kimberly-Clark in Troy for over 10 years, where he retired.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua, with Pastor Dennie Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 11 a .m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
