COLUMBUS — Joel Christopher Henson, age 30, of Columbus, gracefully succumbed after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital, Westerville.

Joel was born Aug. 9, 1983, in Beaumont, Texas, to Karen (Seewer) Henson, of Sidney, and the late Terry L. Henson.

Joel is survived by his mother; grandparents, Virginia Raterman Seewer, of Sidney, and Virginia Henson, of Houston; brothers, Trevor Henson, of Piqua, Kyle Henson, of Sidney, Jeremy Henson, of Sidney, Corbin Henson, of South Carolina; his loving fiancee, Karine Aswad, of Columbus, who never left his side and stood beside him lovingly; aunts and uncles, Sharon and Tom Asbury, of Sidney, Natalie and Chris Buzzard, of Wapakoneta, Janell and Larry Cisco, of Sidney, Julie and Jim Stewart, of Sidney, Carla and Mike Drees, of Russia, William (Bill) Henson, Jacksonville, Fla., Michael Henson, of Houston, John Cromes, of Sidney; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joel was also preceded in death by grandparents, Carl J. Seewer and Walter Henson; uncles and aunts, Tim Seewer, Bev Cromes and Linda Henson.

Joel graduated from Lehman High School in 2002, were he excelled on the football team and also held the record for most interceptions in a season. He was also a graduate of Wittenberg College, in Springfield, where he was a member of the football team, and received his MBA, at Ohio Dominican College, in Columbus.

Joel was a devoted Michigan football fan. He loved running in marathons, loved to paint, do pottery work and enjoyed cooking. Joel loved to work out, play golf, throw darts and participate in fantasy football and March madness. Joel was passionate about his job as the inside sales manager at Plaskolite in Columbus, where his coworkers were a big support and second family.

Joel had an infectious personality and sense of humor and lived by the motto, "seize the day."

Mass of the Resurrection, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sidney with the Rev. Daniel Hess as celebrant. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Sidney.

Family and friends may call at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, (Interstate 75, exit 90) on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 4 to 8 p.m.
