John Wical (1947 - 2016)

WAPAKONETA — John C. Wical, 69, of Wapakoneta, died 9:05 p.m., Sunday, March 13, 2016, at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.

He was born Jan. 26, 1947, in Sidney, Ohio, the son of Lincoln G. & Elizabeth "Betty" (Osborn) Wical, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 17, 1970, he married Judith Ann "Judy" Weigel, who preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 2008.

Survivors include four children, David E. Wical, Wapakoneta, John A. (Michelle) Wical, Piqua, Ohio, Rick (Adrienne) Wical, Beavercreek, Ohio, and Mary P. Wical, Wapakoneta; four grandchildren, Millie, Aidan, Beckett and Kellan Wical; a great-grandson, Anthony; and a sister, Janice Paullin, Battle Ground, Washington.

He was preceded in death by a sister Sandra "Sandy" Wical.

John retired from Crown Equipment, as a welder after 35 years of service. A 1967 graduate of Botkins High School, John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. John served his country as a Vietnam War veteran with the U.S. Army, and received the Purple Heart.

His other memberships included the Amvets Post 333 and the VFW Post 8445, both of Wapakoneta. He enjoyed camping, boating on Lake Cumberland, gardening, and cooking.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Daniel Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta Post 8445.

The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 10 a.m., Saturday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral and Cremation Services, 1102 Lincoln Ave., (state Route 501) Wapakoneta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Auglaize County Special Olympics or to Northwest Battle Buddies in memory of John's nephew Jeffrey Paullin., P.O. Box 2511, Battle Ground, WA, 98064.
