SIDNEY — Josephine Murray Jahoda, 95, of Sidney, passed away at 3:48 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, at Dorothy Love Retirement Community. Although Jo was an Ohio resident most of her life, Michigan was in her heart and soul.

She was born on Aug. 24, 1921, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late Robert D. and Eleanor (LaMont) Murray. In 1945, she married Milton A. Jahoda, whom preceded her in death.

Jo is survived by one son, John (Kathy) Jahoda; and one daughter, Christine (David) Therkelson, of Springboro, four grandchildren, Michael Jahoda, Kristen Jahoda Durst, Sarah Therkelson Saunders and Rebecca Therkelson Raines; and four great-grandchildren, Ellen and David Jahoda, Katelyn and Hailey Durst.

Mrs. Jahoda was a 1943 graduate of the University of Michigan and also received her Master's degree in Social Work in 1977 from the University of Cincinnati. Prior to her marriage she was employed as a social case worker by the Travelers Aid Association of New York City. She later was a case worker in children's protective and adoptive services in New Hampshire, Kansas and New York City. Jo was also employed as a social work consultant with the Visiting Nursing Homes Association in Cincinnati for nine years before retiring in 1984.

Mrs. Jahoda was active in the Westwood Women's Club, Cincinnati, The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Daughters of the War of 1812, the Sidney Chapter of the American Association of University Women and a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Sidney. Jo was a volunteer at the Suttons Bay Area Library, Michigan for many years, the Christian Neighbors Food Pantry of Leelanau County, Michigan and as a mentor in the Helping One Student to Succeed program in the Sidney Public Schools.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Amos Chapel, Dorothy Love with Gene Saunders officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Point Cemtery at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney.
