HOUSTON — Karen R. Cowan, age 62, of Houston, passed away on Oct. 8, 2014, at noon at Green Hills Community Center of West Liberty, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.

Karen was born Jan. 14, 1952 in Lake City, Iowa to the late Loyd and Loraine (Rodewald ) Ashbrook.

She married William Cowan on Dec. 25, 1970, and he survives in Houston.

Karen is survived by sons, William Shaun Cowan and his wife, Victoria, of Bellefontaine, and Michael Cowan and wife, Sara, of Piqua; daughter, Dana Thompson and her husband, Herb, of Catawba, Ohio; sisters, Jolene and husband, Bill Shortridge, of Sidney, and Sherri and husband, Allan Hutton, of Toledo; brother, Alan and wife, Ellen Ashbrook, of Fort Loramie; and mother-in-law, Velura Cowan, of Piqua.

She was preceded in death by son, Brian Cowan, and brother, Merlyn Ashbrook.

Karen was a homemaker and treasurer of the Boy Scouts Troop 239 of Houston. She loved cooking, sewing and time she spent with her loving family. She traveled extensively throughout the country with her husband, William, who had a career in the U S Air Force.

Funeral services for Karen will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney, with Pastor James Manuel officiating. Burial will follow at Houston Cemetery, Houston.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 239 or the in Karen's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
