Lawrence Werling

PIQUA — Lawrence A. Werling, 76, of Piqua, died at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016.

He was born Sept. 14, 1939, in Shelby County to the late William and Matilda (Heitman) Werling.

Survivors include six children, James (Loretta) Werling and Catherine (David) Deegan, all of Virginia, David (Patricia) Werling, of Piqua, Matthew (Patricia) Werling, of Michigan, Gregory (Lisa) Werling, of Connecticut, and Daniel (Jeanette) Werling, of Michigan; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother Eugene Werling, of Houston.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

Mr. Werling was a graduate of Houston High School, worked at Frigidaire in Dayton and then the Truck & Bus Division of General Motors from which he retired following 35 years of employment. He was a United States Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church and attended St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a farmer, loved being with family, metal crafting, farming and was an avid gardener as evidenced by his involvement with the Piqua Garden Club. Additionally, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Russia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia, with the Rev. Martin Fox as the celebrant followed by full military honors provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, Piqua.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Remy Catholic Church, 108 E. Main St., Russia, OH 45363.
