SIDNEY — Leonard "Gene" Cathcart, 86, of Sidney, passed away at 10:59 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2016, at Dorothy Love Retirement Community.

He was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Shelby County, the son of the late Bert and Lola (Davis) Cathcart. On Dec. 2, 1950, he married Betty Jane Levering, who preceded him in death, Nov. 22, 2005.

Gene is survived by five children, Bill Cathcart, Gary (Jackie) Cathcart, both of Houston, Dart (Diane) Cathcart, of Maplewood, Vicki Cathcart, and Pae Morrow, both of Sidney; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Cathcart was a graduate of Sidney High School, class of 1947, and a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Kroger's, where he worked as a meat cutter for 50 years. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post No. 217, and a member of the Ohio Horseshoe Pitching League. He enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at noon in Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., with Pastor Kris Geise officiating. Burial with military honors performed by the Sidney American Legion will be at Houston Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County or Dorothy Love Life Care Fund in Gene's memory. Condolences may be expressed to the Cathcart family at the website,
