NEWPORT — Martha V. (Bornhorst) Borchers, age 91, of Newport, Ohio, died Monday, April 17, 2017, at 8:10 a.m. in her home.

Martha, the daughter of Louis and Rose (Meyer) Bornhorst, was born March 2, 1926, in McCartyville, Ohio. She was married on Sept. 11, 1948, to Richard (Dick) Borchers, who preceded her in death on April 25, 2010.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Barb Borchers (Bob's wife), of Oran, Ron and Kay Borchers, of Russia, Roger and Jan Borchers, of Russia, and Dale and Marty Borchers, of St. Marys; daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and Steve Standiford, of Cincinnati, Barb and Brian Condon, of Versailles, Jan and Mike Bruns, of Tipp City, and Linda and Andy Meyer, of Russia; 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Dick, she was preceded in death by her son, Bob Borchers, and grandson, Nathan Condon.

Martha is also survived by brothers Ralph, Paul and Ray Bornhorst, all of McCartyville; and sisters, Verona Poeppelman, of New Bremen, and Dorothy Combs, of West Union.

She was preceded in death by brothers Lester, of New Bremen, and Urban and Homer, both of Fort Loramie; and sisters Norma Bensman, of McCartyville, Eileen Borchers, of Fort Loramie, and Adella Brown, of Wapakoneta.

Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loving, kind, and caring Christian lady. Martha was a talented seamstress and enjoyed playing cards and other games with family and friends. She loved birds, and Christmas was her favorite time of the year.

Martha was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Newport, where she was a member of the choir and other church groups. She also did volunteer work at Wilson Memorial Hospital for many years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Newport by the Rev. Steven Shoup. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 20, from 2 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice Care, Right to Life, or the Gathering Place in Russia.
