HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Martha Ferree Schneider, 93, passed into the loving arms of God on Oct. 5, 2016, in Huntsville, Alabama, where she lived with her son.

She was the only child of Clarence and Marie Roberts Vincent born Sept. 2, 1923, in Springfield, Ohio.

Martha married Sheldon Ferree in Panama on March 17, 1943. They were married 47 years and Mr. Ferree died in 1990. Martha married Robert Schneider in 1995, and Robert died in 2002.

Martha was employed as a civilian for the U.S. Navy in the Panama Canal Zone in 1943. During the war, she volunteered for the Red Cross and was a telephone operator at various command posts. Martha spent 52 years as a legal/executive secretary in the Sidney area.

Her love was music. She was a concert pianist and taught piano and pipe organ. She traveled with her Hammond organ and played for many events. She wrote many beautiful songs. She was a dual member of Trinity Chapter and Pleiades Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading, writing music and poetry, and having coffee with her friends. Martha loved the Lord and would often light candles and hold prayer vigils for loved ones.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Donald V. Ferree (Janice) of Huntsville, Alabama, and a daughter, Nanette Crosley (Leonard) of Dunedin, Florida. She has four grandchildren, Corrie (Jeff) Reed, Jennifer Crosley, Stephanie (Jeff) Hyatt, Darren (Melissa) Ferree. One granddaughter, Angela Ferree, preceded her in death.

There are five great-grandchildren, one great great-grandson, and a cousin, Lloyd Roberts and his family. Martha loved her family and was very proud of all of them.

At her request, the body has been cremated. There will be a service in Huntsville on Sunday, Oct. 16. On Nov. 23, there will be a celebration service in Lima with the location to be selected later when arrangements are finalized.
