FORT LORAMIE — Mary Ellen Ernst, age 93, of Fort Loramie, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Elmwood of New Bremen.

She was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Egypt, Ohio to the late John and Veronica (Poeppelman) Ahrens. On Nov. 21, 1946, she married Henry F. Ernst and he preceded her in death on Feb. 29, 1996.

She is survived by children, Henry and Linda Ernst, Piqua, Mary Lou and Thomas Klein, Carey, Ohio, Kenneth and Deb Ernst, Fort Loramie, Richard and Jennie Ernst, Fort Loramie, Karen Ernst, Sidney, Jackie Ernst, Elida, and Patty and Tony Eilerman, Fort Loramie; daughter-in-law Diane Ernst, Bellbrook; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and sister, Edna Aselage, Fort Loramie.

She was preceded in death by son, James Ernst, grandson, Tony Ernst, brother, Vernon and Alvina Ahrens and brother-in-law, Henry Aselage.

She was a lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Fort Loramie, and a member of the NAM of the North. Mary Ellen was specially known for her cinnamon rolls, pies and cookies. She was a homemaker, gardener, avid card player and crossword puzzle solver.

She was often found at the Fort Loramie Library where her favorite librarians would supply her with the latest romance novels and current books to read. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2016, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Fort Loramie with the Rev. Steven Shoup, celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home-Minster on Thursday, May 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
