Mary Katherine was born on May 1, 1915, the second oldest and last surviving sibling of eight children born to the late Mary Hulda and Dr. J.I. McClendon in Russell Springs, Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Lloyd W. Ginn on Nov. 5, 2000.

She is survived by her only child, a son, Bill Ginn (Karen), of Venice, Florida; granddaughters, Holly Maggio (Chip), of Akron, Ohio, Sandra Putman (Shawn), of Wilson, North Carolina, and Mary Collins (Joe), of Fort Wayne, Indiana; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She and Lloyd resided at 218 Maple St. here in Sidney for 53 years before she moved to the Dorothy Love Retirement Community in 2003.

Mary Katherine earned her Teaching Certificate from Western Kentucky University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Ohio Northern University. She taught first and second grades for 30 years at Kettlersville School in the Anna Local District and retired from teaching in 1975. She was a gifted and dedicated educator who took immense pride in teaching hundreds of Shelby County children to read. Before moving to Sidney after World War II, she taught eight grades in one-room schools in rural Kentucky in small communities like Puncheon Camp and Horseshoe Bottom along the Cumberland River. She often made the trip to school on horseback and incase of bad weather, would simply stay with a nearby student's family.

Mary Katherine lived her life as a devout Christian and was a 70 year member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ here in Sidney. She was a life-member of The Ohio Retired Teachers Association, The Shelby County Retired Teachers Association and The American Association of University Women. She and Lloyd loved traveling and, after he retired in 1979, the couple set out to visit all 50 states and successfully completed their quest with a cruise to Alaska. Mary Katherine was also an accomplished gardener and her back-yard creations on Maple Street were a joy to behold!

Mary Katherine was blessed with a long life and touched many of our lives during her journey back to The Lord. She was and always will be an admired, respected, and beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, friend and teacher. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
