POCASSET, Mass. — Mary Louise (Bensman) Thornton, age 75, of Pocasset, Massachusetts, and formerly of Westwood, Massachusetts, died June 10, 2015, after a long illness.

Devoted mother of Ted and his wife, Lisa, of Scituate, Massachusetts, Lynn Colebank and her husband, Mark, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Lori Whelan and her husband, Brian, of Walpole.

She was pre-deceased by husband, (Joseph) Brad, and son, Jack of Westwood, Massachusetts.

She is the sister of Gene (and Willma) Bensman, Ruth Ann (and Clarence) Meyer, Betty (and Don) Wehrman, Leonard Jr. (and Connie) Bensman, the Rev. Gerald (Bensman), Margie (and Bob) Zwiesler, John (and Jan) Bensman and Patty (and Peter) Cook.

She is also survived by 10 loving grandchildren, Jacqueline, Joseph, Paige, Amy, John, Sarah, Jenna, Molly, Caroline and Paul, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Raised in Dayton, Ohio, she attended Holy Angels High School, Class of 1957, and University of Dayton, Class of 1962. Prior to retiring in 2001, she taught Special Education in Randolph School Department for 20 years. Mary Lou enjoyed gardening, decorating, entertaining and the outdoors.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, in St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood. The interment will follow at New Westwood Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, June 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Holden, Dunn & Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock Street, Westwood, MA 02090.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Westwood Scholarship Foundation, 200 Nahatan Street, Westwood, MA 02090.
