SIDNEY — Max Joseph Schmidt, 62, of Fort Loramie-Swanders Road, (Swanders) Sidney, Ohio, was found to have passed away of natural causes at his residence Saturday evening, July 12, 2014.
He was born Sept. 15, 1951, at Goldsboro, North Carolina, to the late Louis "Joe" Schmidt, and Marjorie (Liette) Schmidt, who survives in New Bremen. Also surviving are two children, Cammie and Ken Huelskamp, of Eads, Tennessee, and Nolan J. Schmidt, of Toledo; five grandchildren: Hannah, Stephen, Sophia, Mariel and Sylvia Huelskamp; five siblings: Toni and Mark Stephenson, of Sidney, Kurt and Marsha Schmidt, of Anna, Christopher and Jackie Schmidt, of The Villages, Florida, Carla and Bob Minnich, of New Bremen, and Scot and Missy Schmidt, of Swanders; numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Theresa Schmidt.
Max was a 1969 graduate of Anna High School. Over the years, he continued studies to obtain certification in meat cutting and HVAC. Mr. Schmidt managed the meat department at Anna Foods IGA until 1990 when the store changed ownership. Since then he had been employed at Anna Hardware and Agrana Fruits in Botkins. In his leisure, Max enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2014, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in McCartyville with the Rev. Les Schmidt presiding. Interment of cremains will follow at Pearl Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie and Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of services at the church.
