SIDNEY — The Rev. Merle L. Laws, 81, of Sidney passed away at 4:51 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at his residence following complications from myasthenia gravis, which he had since 2010.

He was born on Jan. 18, 1934, in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Everett and Lula (Leese) Laws.

On Aug. 1, 1954, he married Marlin Sphar, who survives along with their son, Alan Laws and wife, Donna, of Sidney; two grandchildren, Erika (Jason) Riegel and Travis Laws; two great-grandchildren, Camden and Kynzie Riegel; one sister, Alberta Campbell, of Titusville, Florida; one brother, John (Edna) Laws, of Sidney; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard (Barbara) Meyer, of Piqua.

The Rev. Laws served as pastor of Northtowne Church of God for 27 years, retiring in 1998. Prior to pastoring, he and his father owned and operated Laws Linden Market and Duds & Suds Laundry Mat in Sidney. The Rev. Laws was an encouragement to many and touched so many lives, only eternity will reveal the extent of his influence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Northtowne Church of God, with the Rev. Tim Bartee and the Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco.

The family will receive friends at Northtowne Church of God on Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northtowne Church of God in memory of the Rev. Merle L. Laws.
