DAYTON — Paul Victor Ressler, of Dayton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Aug. 18, 2016.

The only child of Victor and Helen (Ruppert) Ressler, he was born in Dayton, Sept. 15, 1927.

After graduating from Fairview High School in 1945, Paul's lifetime commitment to education and service was shaped by his time at Ball State University, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in education. His education was interrupted for a year while he served in the Army in post-war occupied Germany. Paul's career as an educator and administrator began at Anna High School as a business teacher in 1950. Paul then began more than three decades of service in the Dayton Public Schools, returning to Fairview High School, and then as assistant principal at Meadowdale High School when it first opened. His last years with Dayton schools were as director of personnel for the Dayton Public Schools. He then joined the University of Dayton to serve as a liaison between the School of Education and teachers as they advanced their education. Paul's passion to education was equaled by his commitment to faith and service. His faith service was extensive in several congregations. Paul's service to community included being president of the Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association and hours of volunteering for Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm.

In 1952, Paul was married to Marguerite Mittermaier, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. F.J. Mittermaier, of Anna. They spent their 64 years of marriage living in the Dayton area. He is survived by Marguerite and their daughters, Elaine Ressler, of Miamisburg, Marcia (John) Kelly, of Muncie, Indiana, and Lora (Todd) Stowe and their daughter, Rachael, of Dayton. Paul is also survived by the Rev. and Mrs. Dwight Hedrick, Jeanette Mittermaier, and much loved nephews and nieces.

The family would also like to thank the many caregivers at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cypress Pointe, and for their loving care of Paul.
