VANDALIA — Phillip R. Esau, age 77, of Vandalia, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 6, 1939, Phillip was the son of the late Earl F. and Margaret M. Esau. Although he will be greatly missed, his family rejoices that he will be free of pain in his Heavenly home.

Phillip is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Emily A.; daughter, Gretchen (Curtis) Harsch, of Vandalia; son, Ryan (Kindra) Esau, of Jamestown; his exchange student from Thailand, Wittamon Lertcharoenamnuay; and sister, Karen Esau-Stubbs, of Dayton. Phillip loved his family, his friends, and especially his grandchildren, Casey Ann, Joseph, Cameron, Grant, Zachary, Alexander and Phillip, and great-grandson, Henry.

Phillip was a commercial artist and worked for various studios before entering into his own business, Esau-Antonick Inc. He was a longtime member of Salem Church of God, where he helped to establish the Prayer Garden, was a founding member of the Empty Nesters, Helping Hands Ministry and various Life Groups.

Phillip was a member of the Vandalia Lions Club for many years, serving as President and various other elected offices. He loved model railroads and was a member of the Crossroads Model Railroad Club.

A celebration of Phillip's Life will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at Salem Church of God with Pastor Richard Triplett officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 p.m. Sunday until service time.
